LETTER: New cycle path is a ‘botched-up’ job

MAY I make a few comments regarding the recent construction of a cycle path along Padiham Road from Padiham to near Park Hill School.

The section from Park Hill to Habergham Church is fine but from there the job took a downward turn in quality. In fact, in the opinion of quite a number of people, it looks like a real botched-up effort.

The standard of material used and workmanship varies greatly from section to section giving an appearance the bitumen used was acquired from the leftovers from other jobs, being rough finish to smooth finish of various shades. The laying of the surface seemed to be in whatever depth was the order of the day.

The road had all the painted lines removed and renewed leaving the surface rough in places particularly in the entrance to Gawthorpe Edge Park where there is now a deep groove forming as the surface breaks up.

Surely, if a considerable amount of money has been spent on this project, then is it unreasonable to expect a better quality job than this.
