LETTER: MPs get £35,000 after losing job - we get a P45

I WAS quite happy to do my bit as a member of the “We are all in it together club” until I read that Gordon Prentice was given £35,000 to help him adjust to “real life” after he lost his seat. Most people I know only get a P45 when they lose their jobs.

However, this squandering of public money does not stop there. Lord Prescott, who, as many will remember, when John Prescott MP so loathed the House of Lords he would have got rid of it, has had a nice little earner since taking ermine. He has been paid £800 a day just for going to Westminster.

Let me be fair and say this figure was arrived at by dividing the total of his expenses by the number of attendances he made.

It seems to me the bigger the trough, the bigger the snout. Nice work if you can get it, don’t you think?
