LETTER: Make sure you are receiving correct benefits

THOUSANDS of people have begun to receive letters from the Department for Work and Pensions telling them that, under the Welfare Reform Bill plans, contributory employment and support allowance (c-ESA) will be time-limited to one year from April 2012, meaning people who have accessed c-ESA since April 2011 could lose all their benefit in six months’ time.

The DWP’s own impact assessment assumes around 40% of those affected will be left with no income whatsoever.

At the same time £4.5 billion in benefits remains unclaimed, some of which would cushion the blow of the loss of ESA. Mybenefitschecker aims to ensure people are aware of the benefits available to them. For a free check to see if you could be entitled to any of the additional benefits telephone 0845 459 4135.
