LETTER: Has law changed over cycling on pavements?

I HAVE reached the age where I can go upstairs and wonder what it was I went up for; so there may well be a local by-law that was passed, or even an Act of Parliament concerning cyclists, I have forgotten about.

Such laws, if they have been passed, apparently give the right to cyclists to use the pavements as their own personal freeway. Unfortunately, in my dotage, all I think I can remember is a time when adult cyclists used the road and pedestrians used the pavement usually with no abuse being thrown by the wheeled group at the other; “Get out of the way you !**!?**!!!” being typical.

What changed? Is it just my memory letting me down again?
