LETTER: Europe throws money at problem it created

Although I am happy to see Lancashire County Council receive a cash injection of £3.5m. to help young people who are not in education, employment or training, it must be reminded this is our own money, not the European Union’s.

This money has been paid by us as taxpayers and regurgitated by Brussels after much begging and pleading.

Surely it would be a lot simpler and cost effective to not pay the EU in the first place and spend locally raised money on local projects, such as tackling youth unemployment.

This is another case of Europe throwing money at a problem they themselves have helped to create.

Thanks to our membership of the European Union, our unskilled labour has become overflooded in such a way that it is almost impossible for local youths to break into a first job.
