LETTER: Council should act on town centre rats menace

IN relation to the article on page three in the Burnley Express, Friday, December 2nd, about the town centre rats nuisance.

I agree about the disgraceful state of the alleyway at the back of the building and the eyesore of the state of the building as a whole. Has anyone been bothered to try to find the owners of the building? I don’t think so because I wrote a letter on 12/11/10 on exactly the same subject and up to this day nothing has altered or been done about it nor have the owners come forward.

Someone from Burnley Council should be able to trace the owners of this dump and give them the hard word after all this time. It looks like World War Three has taken place, what with lumps of plaster missing and it has not had a coat of paint since it was the old Empire Theatre and that’s donkey’s years ago. Out of sight, out of mind, that’s the rule of the game being played today.

My other gripe is what the council says about controlling the rats that have been seen in the area. They say they only provide pest control services to domestic properties and not businesses (what a load of tripe). Suppose the town hall is riddled with rats and vermin and even if it is not classed as a domestic property you can bet your boots they would be round in quick time to sort it out.
