LETTER: Children will lose out as bonfire is cancelled

I AM writing to you as chairwoman of the East Lancashire support group of Life Education.

This is an organisation which provides health education in primary schools, reaching 800,000 children. The children learn how to make responsible life choices by being taught about diet, exercise and to manage the risks they might encounter.

For many years the children of Clitheroe and surrounding area have benefited from the town bonfire, as the proceeds subsidise the cost of providing the Life Education service to local schools. Due to the cancellation of the bonfire this year, as result of over-zealous health and safety issues, some local schools will be unable to afford a Life Education visit.

How sad that so many local children will miss out.

MRS JAN TAYLOR,

East Lancs Life Education
