LETTER: Cash commitment to keep our PCSOs

I am extremely surprised Coun. Townsend is requesting that Burnley Council’s Executive Committee make a firm commitment to funding PCSOs for next year.

This is because, at the council’s Executive meeting on February 8th, the Executive made such a commitment and approved an annual allocation of £87,200 as a contribution to Lancashire Constabulary’s cost of employing 25 PCSOs in the borough in 2011/12 and 2012/13.

What amazes me the most though is that Coun. Townsend attended that meeting and was present when the item was discussed and decision made.

I am, therefore, unclear as to why Coun. Townsend is trying to raise concerns for residents when the council has already confirmed its commitment to PCSOs for next year.
