LETTER: Call for more lesbian, gay, bi and transsexual foster carers

On behalf of Lancashire County Council I’d like to back BAAF’s recent appeal for more potential adoptive and foster carers to come forward, including those from the lesbian, gay, bi or transsexual community.

In Lancashire we have a number of same-sex couples providing stable and loving homes for children and young people who cannot live with their own family, and are pleased to support the LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week, from March 4th to 10th.

We always need more foster carers and adoptive parents from all walks of life, and we’d like to appeal to readers to think about whether this could be for them.

In Lancashire, we’re also pioneering concurrent placements – a new process which places babies and toddlers from a very early age with carers who are prepared to either adopt them, or help them return to their family if that’s what’s best for the child.

If any readers are thinking about fostering or adoption, we’d love to hear from them on 0800 195 1183 (fostering), 0800 0286349 (adoption) or via www.lancashire.gov.uk/love.

COUNTY COUN. SUSIE CHARLES
