LETTER: Bedroom tax breach of ‘right to family life’?

This letter is aimed at human rights lawyers.

In April this year the Government has thrown another metaphoric bomb at the poorest in society. They are placing a “bedroom tax” on them, which means a tax on the number of bedrooms.

For instance, if you are a single father or mother and you have your children staying, as many people do two or three times a week, you are not allowed two bedrooms, meaning in fact you would have to share your only bedroom with your children, some of whom will be teenagers.

Considering the fact the Human Rights Act states everyone has a right to family life, is this not a massive breach of the law? An asylum seeker had the right to family life because of his cat. Surely some human rights lawyer could take up this issue of the bedroom tax.
