LETTER: Answer to parking problems is having fewer cars

I WAS surprised at the reaction on the issue of parking in Sabden.

I cannot comment on those cases, but if Sabden is anything like Chipping there will be a serious problem with inappropriate parking. It is not just about what is legal, but what is fair to others. Part of the solution is free car parks, combined with much stronger enforcement.

Similarly, I sympathise with those objecting to developments in Whalley and Longridge – but are they saying it is okay for roads to be choked elsewhere or it would be okay if more roads were built as well as more houses?

Neither of these ideas is tenable. In the end, the only answer is to have fewer cars and use them less.

PATRICK HANLEY,

Chipping
