Know your blood pressure and prevent a stroke

We would like to thank all the people who came to get their blood pressure tested at the Know Your Blood Pressure event held at Tesco Padiham on May 17th.

We tested 80 people and identified 32 who had high blood pressure and were given stroke prevention advice.

MP Gordon Birtwistle gave up his time to attend, help and have his own blood pressure tested. The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Padiham. Thanks also to Tesco who allowed us to use their facilities on what was a very successful day.

High blood pressure is the biggest risk factor for stroke and as it has no symptoms many people are completely unaware they have it.

We estimate that around half of strokes could be prevented if people with high blood pressure took steps to keep it under control. The Know Your Blood Pressure campaign is run by the Stroke Association in partnership with Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland to raise awareness about the link between high blood pressure and stroke.
