How much will General Election cost ordinary people?
For the next few months we are going to have to suffer politicians of all colours criss-crossing the country as they scurry around countering each other’s policy statements and posing for photo opportunities.
It is not possible to put a figure on how many millions all this pointless activity will cost the taxpayer, but using averages and rounding up the figures, it is reasonably easy to determine another election cost.
In a parliamentary election, each political candidate is allowed one “free” mailing to every voter in their constituency, so on the basis there are 650 constituencies and assuming each constituency has an average of 70,000 voters and four candidates, what is the approximate cost to us hard-working, every day, ordinary people?
