Government has connived with the house builders

I must apologise for something of a mix-up when a letter appeared from me which was written many moons ago. I’m not sure how this happened, but the intended letter is printed below.

Recently we have heard national housing targets have been missed again. Developers and house builders have as always, blamed the planning system.

As the Government’s planning framework is nothing more than a set of guidelines which give developers free reign to build whatever, wherever and whenever they like, the blame is misplaced. It is these people who are guilty of land banking and of building large market value houses which have a limited supply of buyers when they should be building affordable homes which are the ones the nation needs.

The Government has connived with the housing industry to remove any requirement to build affordable houses as part of a larger development further exacerbating the situation.

I’d be interested to know how much the building industry donates to the ruling parties to buy the influence it clearly has.
