Football violence should have stopped years ago

I just had to write in disgust at the incident at Burnley Miners’ Club when we played Sheffield Wednesday. As a lifelong Burnley fan I thought all this football violence had finished in the ’70s and ’80s. Obviously not.

I hope all the thugs that took part will be caught and punished accordingly. Anyone who recognises any of the photos in the paper, do the right thing and contact the police. You don’t want to bring yourselves down to their level.

What brave lads they were, attacking 50 and 60 year-olds. These were someone’s fathers and grandfathers. If they are so brave and want to attack the opposition, get them on the front line in Afghanistan and let them have a go there. They would soon be squealing and scared witless.

Please don’t call yourselves Burnley fans. We don’t want your sort anymore. I just hope that all the Sheffield Wednesday fans involved are OK and would like to say sorry for the mindless few.
