Don’t add to misery for poorest in society

With austerity due to continue for another four years at least, and the poorest bearing most of the burden, it is vital landlords, especially social landlords, play their part in helping those in greatest need through hard times.

The energy companies are already making people choose between heating and eating so it is essential further financial pressure is not exerted on the most vulnerable through rent increases. Increased housing costs will push many more hard-working, low income families over a financial cliff as well as increase the housing benefit bill.

Social landlords should think hard and consider their social responsibility before increasing their rents.
