Councillors must be held to account over Post Office

As an extensive daily user of the post office in Barrowford I felt compelled to pass comment, especially in the light of the comments made by Mark Porter.

I now have to make daily trips to Nelson or Colne post offices to conduct my business affairs, which is a pain to say the least.

I totally agree with the comments Mr Porter made stating councillors should take responsibility for the decisions they make.

Barrowford is an integral part of Pendle and it is high time Barrowford’s councillors start putting the people of Barrowford at the heart of their decisions.

Although I do not take much interest in local politics, I have to admit I did receive a leaflet last year from Mr Porter warning the post office might be under threat, although I never actually thought it would evolve.

Perhaps there is a lesson in it for us all.

If we do not pay attention to what our local councillors are planning, or indeed hold them to account at the ballot box, we have no right to complain about the consequences of their decisions.

I for one will be paying much more attention in the future and hope others will do the same.
