Church’s effort shows true spirit of Christmas

I lost my husband in tragic circumstances two and a half years ago and since then have found Christmas a difficult time.

But this year I decided to volunteer to help at Central Methodist Church, Hargreaves Street, Burnley. What a humbling and rewarding experience this was.

The church opens its doors on Christmas Day for all those who are alone, homeless etc and meals are delivered to the housebound.

I would like to thank the Rev. Phil Clarke, Judith, and Susan and Peter Hughes. They are the backbone of the event.

Also, the many volunteers who made me feel so welcome and worked tireslessly.

Carols were sung and a three-course meal was served.

I believe the people of Burnley would be proud such an occasion is held in their town.

Also, who says the Christian spirit is dead?
