The campaign for mandatory CCTV in slaughterhouses has celebrity backing with Ricky Gervais sharing links to an important campaign petition on the Government’s website.

More than 50,000 people have signed the petition and, if it attracts 100,000 signatures, it will be debated in Parliament.

The campaign for CCTV is in response to Animal Aid’s investigations that found evidence of widespread cruelty inside UK slaughterhouses, including animals being kicked, punched, beaten, burned with cigarettes and given punishing electric shocks. We also filmed animals being dragged by their ears, picked up by their fleeces and thrown, and improperly stunned.

TV vets Emma Milne, Marc Abraham and Pete Wedderburn also support the campaign, as does 76% of the public, according to a YouGov poll. More than 120 MPs have also signed an Early Day Motion in support of it.
