7p-a-week Council Tax rise comment is an insult

I would like to reply to Coun. Mark Townsend’s letter regarding this year’s council tax rise. Whatever one’s political leanings or motives, a rise is a rise.

As for the massive prise hike in utility bills, one does have the option of turning them off or at least down (gas, electric etc). This option does not apply to the council tax.

Also, the 7p per week comment is a bit of an insult as many years ago this ploy was used by certain companies trying to sell various things to people which they didn’t want or need. I think one was “for the price of a packet of cigarettes per week, you can afford (whatever it was)”. Also, my council tax rise, I think, equates to about 38p per week.
