Why the roadworks and no one actually working?

Regular readers of this column will no doubt be aware that one of my many bugbears is the current rash of roadworks that currently blight Burnley.

Motoring has become a real pain across the borough as drivers are forced to negotiate temporary traffic lights, lane closures and traffic jams.

But what really frustrates me is the fact that work on Westgate seems to have ground to a halt for the last few weeks, but the lane closures are still in force, causing mayhem and frustration.

Where have the highway workers gone? Has it been too warm for them, or has rain simply stopped play?
