We’re working together to get the best for Pendle

This was the Prime Minister’s second visit to Pendle in just over a year and gave workers a chance to question him on everything from Europe to what type of bed he owns.

While I know some employees had hoped the surprise VIP was going to be a pop star, I think most were pleased to see the Prime Minister taking time to visit Pendle and hear workers’ concerns.

After all, I don’t recall either of the last two incumbents of 10 Downing Street ever doing this.

Last week, there were local elections across most of Pendle, giving residents the chance to choose councillors to represent them on the borough council and I look forward to continuing to work closely with our local councillors and council officers and staff.

Despite some of the cheap shots and party political rhetoric, you will have read over recent weeks the vast majority of councillors, of all political parties, are involved because they want to improve our local area.

Whoever you voted for, or even if you decided not to vote, I hope you will join me in thanking those who put themselves forward to serve Pendle, and congratulate all those elected.

Local politics can at times seem divisive, but that is often only because what candidates disagree on is far more newsworthy than what they agree on.

Ultimately, after an election, we all must work together for the benefit of Pendle and I look forward to continuing to do so.
