Volunteers help to keep community spirit alive

In Colne these have included the Holy Trinity Church Spring Fair, the Colne Arts & Craft Market, visiting Mitchell Interflex in Foulridge and an event to recognise our local carers at the Union Exchange.

It was also a privilege to take part in the Mayoral procession on May 19th from Colne Legion, to St John’s Methodist Church when Coun. Smith Benson became the new Mayor of Pendle. In Nelson and surrounding areas, I attended an event at the Coldwell Activity Centre, an open day at the Old Library in Booth Street, a VE Day event at Andrew Smith House, a Nelson United Reformed Church Coffee Morning, a church service at Woodland Road Baptist Church, a Salvation Army Coffee Morning, Barrowford Bike and Car Show, Pendle Glass Festival, a charity car wash at Higherford Methodist Church, the Barley Quilt Exhibition and the Fence Ball.

In West Carven I was delighted to attend the Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary 50th Anniversary Charter Dinner, the Barnoldswick Mothers’ Union Coffee Morning, the Barnoldswick Seniors “POP IN” Spring Fair, Rolls-Royce Leisure Retired Employees “Songs from the Shows night”, the excellent Bands on the Square event, the Valley Gardens Summer Fayre, All Saints (Earby) Church Garden Party and the Kelbrook Family Fun Festival.

Why do I mention this? I do so because the vast majority of these events were organised by volunteers, giving up their time for our community and who, between them, will have raised thousands of pounds for charity. Also because if you look at the events section of this paper you will see there are even more events planned for June and July. So why not get involved in organising an event or just pop along? There certainly is a lot going on!
