Time for new releases from the stars

Unless we bow out with an Indian summer heatwave, we can pretty much describe this year as a washout.

Maybe it’s a sign of getting older and time appearing to accelerate, but I can’t believe we are in September and the kids are back to school.

It’s also the time of year when the biggest selling artists in the world start wheeling out new records and greatest hits compilations.

Janet Jackson is releasing her first album in years and following it up with a huge world tour. A few years ago Janet married a billionaire and obviously found no need to work. But I imagine there is only so much sipping champagne you can do a luxury yacht before getting bored so she’s back.

There was a time Rihanna used to release an album every Christmas. It made her one of the best-selling stars in the world and after releasing ‘Unapologetic’ in 2012 a year later we all expected a new album. It never came.

We are still waiting. It is due to be released this autumn and I think the break has done us all good.

I chatted to Leona Lewis at the start of the summer who was working on a first album since leaving Simon Cowell’s stable. She was so excited and refreshed and we finally get to hear her making the album she wants to make this October.

Damon Albarn has had a busy 2015 with his solo project and the first new Blur album in ages. Well now his other band – Gorillaz the cartoon band are working on their first album since 2010. We expect it to appear in time for Christmas.

Duran Duran had their major success in the 80s, but stay relevant by working with the coolest producers in the world. For their new record ‘Paper Gods’ they have reunited with Nile Rodgers who worked with them on ‘Wild Boys.’ I can’t wait, usually everything Nile touches turns to gold.

Rod Stewart released his first album of original material last year for decades. Hot on the heels of this success he is back with a new one called ‘Another Country.’

Looks like my wallet will be taking a battering this autumn.
