Pressure to go into debt to pay for Christmas

Organisers of the area’s credit union are voicing their concern over the spike in borrowing before Christmas.

This would suggest many people simply cannot afford to pay for Christmas without having to go into debt.

I guess it would be easy to be cynical and suggest that if you can’t afford it then don’t buy it, but the pressures on parents to provide for their children is so great nowadays.

We apppear to live in an increasingly materialistc world and items that were once classed as ‘nice to have’ such as mobile phones, have become a necessity and we should not judge people too harshly.
