Old Trout Bitter is a well balanced delightful beverage

My nomination for this month’s review, was a simple one. Old Trout Bitter, brewed by Mick Whittaker, at the Worsthorne Brewing Company, has landed a prestigious award at the recent SIBA Regional Beer Championships.

The brew being awarded the gold medal in the Premium Bitters category.

The award follows on from its “Champion Beer” status, at Burnley Beer Festival in September. Mick said: “It took me totally by surprise. I had got to the awards in Bolton, a little late, and they were just announcing the Premier Bitters category. I was flabbergasted when our beer was judged the gold medal winner. I was so pleased and honoured to receive such a prestigious award.”

Old Trout is a chestnut coloured ale and has a pleasant, malty aroma. It’s lightly hopped, malty smooth, fruity and a tad sweet. It has a long, mild bitter aftertaste. A full flavoured, well balanced, 4.5% quaff - it’s a delightful beverage.
