Memories of the pop wagon in 1977

NOSTALGIC MEMORY: The Queens Silver Jubilee, 1977, at the Fosters Arms. (S)

Here in the summer of 1977 Colin captures the Fosters Arms Inn in Gisburn Road, Barnoldswick, decorated in fine style for our Queen’s Silver Jubilee of that year.

Today the once-busy Fosters Arms Inn is no longer a pub, just as also gone forever is Haworth’s soft drinks company of Forest Street, Nelson, seen here delivering to the Fosters Arms in one of the their ubiquitous Ford Thames wagons. Who today can recall those hot summer days when the pop wagon would arrive on the street to the great glee of all?

As well as Haworth’s, also locally was Dyson’s in Chapel Street and Martin’s in Rook Street, both providing, as did Haworth’s, many jobs in Nelson.

Other pop manufacturers which bring back fond memories are Stantons, Hills and Cowburns, all today just a nostalgic memory of the past.
