Heritage open days are saved

It was thought Burnley’s proud record of organising Heritage Open Days would come to an end this autumn. The events, which are held on the second weekend of September, are going to go ahead this year because of a partnership set up by Burnley Council and Burnley Civic Trust.

The former will organise publicity for the events which will be organised by the Trust. At the present time it is not possible to give a full list but it is known there will be a conducted tour of Burnley Town Hall (2pm Thursday, September 11th); a tour of St Peter’s Church (2pm Saturday, September 13th) and a tour of St John’s Cliviger (11am Saturday, September 13th).

The Friends of the Weavers’ Triangle are organising canalside events and it is hoped that, though arrangements still have to be finalised, the Civic Trust will be able to organise a tour of Ightenhill Park and Ightenhill Manor House site. There are numerous other events in the pipeline and, when the full list is ready, I will bring further information to you. There will be more information on Burnley Council website and that of the Burnley Civic Trust.

The fact Burnley’s very successful Heritage Open Weekend is to continue has been welcomed by many local organisations. At a meeting of Burnley Civic Trust it was decided the Open Weekend should not be allowed to disappear. Burnley Council was approached and a partnership able to deliver the four-day event forged.
