‘Greatest honour’ to represent Pendle

As of Monday, I will no longer be Pendle’s MP (as once Parliament is dissolved there are no MPs) so this column will be suspended until residents have decided on May 7th who they want to represent them - either myself or someone new.

This week has therefore been pretty hectic as MPs have passed the Budget into law, agreed several other pieces of legislation and sought to resolve residents problems while we still have access to Parliament.

On Monday I was pleased to raise the climate change campaign that young people at Fisher More High School have been championing with the Prime Minister.

I also raised Training2000’s plans for an Institute of Cyber Security in Nelson, the desire of St Joseph’s Primary in Barnoldswick to expand and the need to continue supporting Pendle’s aerospace sector on the floor of the House of Commons.

Whatever happens in 40 days’ time it has been the greatest honour of my life to represent our local area in Parliament.

As one of the youngest MP’s in the House of Commons it has been a very steep learning curve, but it has been a real privilege to work with so many dedicated people from across Pendle.

I feel that together we have achieved a great deal, but also know that there is still so much more to be done.

Whatever your opinion of me or politicians in general, I will conclude simply by urging you to use your vote on May 7th.

As the great Winston Churchill once said: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.”
