Education is key to prosperity

As we have seen in our own town, business initiatives are already working to transform communities and I fully support the work they do.

positive changes will be seen. I am doing all I can to ensure that we see future growth and jobs in Burnley and that existing businesses do all they can to help.

I then had a meeting to discuss the APPG on maths and numeracy and how it is essential that we give youngsters the appropriate education and support.

Tuesday was busy with more meetings, which included a lady from Institute of

Customer Service. Given all the focus that has been on the Consumer Rights Bill in

the past few months it was interesting to discuss some of the important changes that have happened.

I hosted a Pimlico Plumbers’ dinner on Wednesday where the Managing Director

Charlie Mullins shares my commitment and belief that apprenticeships must be given the credit and appreciation they deserve and are ultimately key to ensuring that Britain is equipped with the skills for the future.

I was delighted to go to Burnley Education Awards on Thursday and then to present awards on Friday at Burnley Football Club. The National Citizen Service graduates were very impressive.

I am still continuing to work hard to ensure I get a debate on the provision of education for children with autism. I am appalled that the County Council has not adequately been addressing the needs of the children it should.

I would once again like to extend my thanks to everyone for their contributions

to ensure the scanner has become an essential piece of equipment at the hospital. The whole town got behind it. It is a proud achievement for all involved and will provide essential detection for thousands of people all across Lancashire.

Friday was a good day too with another fund-raiser, a superb musical evening. We are now looking to buy a portable scanner to detect women’s bladder cancer.
