Colne beauties of 1959
This excellent 55-year-old photograph and many others were presented most kindly to me recently by the genial, local couple Clive and Lillian Collins.
The year 1959 was one of the hottest and longest English summers of all time and was the year of Colne Cricket Club’s magnificent “double” winning season.

Hide AdIt was also that year Burnley FC began their quest to become the now renowned league champions of 1959-60.
Here in our classic 1959 picture we see our stylish, bonnie Colners lined up at the final heat awaiting the judge’s result.
On the left is the winner Jacqueline Snowden, of Knotts Farm, and other well-known finalists include local girls Decia Holmes, Ann Dixon and Eileen Bullock.
All those seen here are today in their 70s but I’m sure these girls of ’59 will remember the year with great pride.
