Burnley has a great neonatal intensive care unit

That’s the message from Burnley residents who are fighting to protect this highly-praised and highly-valued facility.

The fight is being led by determined mum Hannah Thornton (23) whose daughter Ilythia spent 101 days in the life-saving unit.

Burnley parents could face the prospect of their babies being treated at a central unit based in Manchester. That alone brings its own stress and trauma in terms of transport and visiting.

Burnley has witnessed many of its health facilities being moved out of town. The neonatal intensive care unit really is a facility worth fighting for.
