Operation Fake targets underage drinkers in Burnley town centre

ALCOHOL fuelled anti-social behaviour in Burnley town centre is being tackled head on with a crackdown on fake IDs.

Operation Fake is designed to target underage drinkers who try to use false ID or friends’ ID to get into pubs and clubs.

It will involve police working closely with door staff and licensees to ensure ID is genuine. Anyone found using fake ID will have it seized before officers contact their parents.

Town centre officer PC Paul Marsden said: “A large amount of anti-social behaviour committed in Burnley is a result of underage drinking, which is why we have launched this crackdown. Operation Fake is one of a number of measures to help reduce underage drinking and its impact on our communities. We are encouraged by the response from pubs and clubs keen to work with us to address the issue.”
