One Race For Life in Burnley due to lack of participants

BURNLEY will have one Race For Life instead of two after disappointing numbers forced organisers to merge the two events.

Races were scheduled to be held at Towneley Park at 11 a.m. and 2-30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15th, but bosses at Cancer Research UK have announced one event will take place at 11 a.m.

The charity is now in the process of contacting women who have already signed up for the afternoon event to advise them of the new time.

Laura Taylor from Race for Life said: “We originally thought demand for places would be higher. As the afternoon event has been slower to fill than we anticipated, we have taken the difficult decision to move it to the morning.

“We owe it to our supporters to ensure we raise as much money as possible in the most cost-efficient way and changing the time will help us make savings on event management costs.

“We are very grateful to all those who have already signed up and hope they will understand our decision.”

All those who have already signed up for the Burnley afternoon event are being contacted and advised of the change.

Women can walk, run or jog the 5km course around the park and this year organisers hope to raise £189,000.

Anyone who is unable make the new time will be able to transfer to another Race for Life event. More information is available by calling the Race for Life hotline on 0871 641 1111.
