More than 150 people enjoyed the Mayor of Burnley’s annual charity dinner dance.

Among the guests at the Mechanics Theatre, Burnley, was double Olympic gold medallist cyclist Steven Burke. The Colne-born champion donated a signed Olympic tracksuit top which raised £210.

The evening was a resounding success, with just over £2,000 raised for the Mayor’s charities – Pendleside Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and the Samaritans.

Entertainment was provided by Mike Powell, a Michael Buble tribute act, and local businesses supported the event through buying tickets and/or donating raffle and auction prizes. Civic guests from other boroughs were among the audience.

The Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Jeff Sumner, said: “It was a great evening and everyone had a brilliant time. I’d like to thank everyone who took part, and the businesses and staff at the Mechanics for all their support and hard work in making it such a success.”
