Burnley gymnasts have got their hands on their own slice of Olympic history.
The BEST Centre has secured the pommel horse that Team GB’s Louis Smith and Max Whitlock won silver and bronze on at London 2012.
The apparatus is now taking pride of place in a gymnastics arena at the centre, which will hopefully inspire gymnasts to excel in the sport.
The centre, an official London 2012 Inspire Mark Project, has received a Sport England Legacy Funding grant to allow other equipment to be purchased, which will hopefully help young gymnasts reach the next level.
Andrew Smith, Director of BEST, said: “This opportunity doesn’t come along every day so we made sure we brought a little bit of the Olympic history to Burnley.”
Head of Gymnastics Kimberley Sharples added: “You could see it really motivated them and they couldn’t wait to be the first to start using it!”
