Ofsted criticises Blessed Trinity RC College

Headteacher Miss Bernadette Bleasdale was due to inform pupils and their parents about the content of the report this morning.

The report is said to be highly critical, following a visit from government inspectors in June.

The report will be published in full on the Ofsted website on Monday.

Blessed Trinity, a merger of the former boys’ St Theodore’s RC High and girls’ St Hilda’s RC High, was reorganised under Burnley’s multi-million pound Building Schools for the Future programme.

The school moved into its new purpose-built home in Ormerod Road, Burnley, last September. It gained the best GCSE results in Burnley last year.

It also received a “good” report from Ofsted inspectors two years ago.

Following the recent inspection, Miss Bleasdale announced the early indications of the report to pupils in an assembly but would not comment about the report before it was offically released by Ofsted and made public.

Chairman of governors Fr Brian Kealey wrote to parents in June saying: “Early indications suggest their (inspectors’) findings will not be at the level we hoped to achieve.

“Our disappointment around this has been shared with pupils. The governing body is fully supportive of the headteacher, the senior management team, staff and pupils.”
