“From cadets in Lancashire and Cumbria, Louise was chosen as cadet of the year by experts from Skills for Health.”

In addition to their college studies, both Lydia and Louise have had work placements with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Louise’s citation for the Special Merit Award stated she was “an outstanding learner throughout her Cadet programme achieving 100% attendance on the course at college and on placement, she obtained well over the hours required to meet the specification.”

Lydia Hunt’s success is the third year in a row that an East Lancashire Hospital’s cadet has won the “Cadet of the Year” title.

Following successful completion of the Cadet Programme, Lydia has received offers at five universities and will shortly begin studying Paramedic Science studies at Bradford University.

Lynne Harrison, Cadet Scheme Facilitator at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, praised the cadets and the colleges for their co-operation.

She said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Burnley, Nelson and Colne and Blackburn Colleges to provide placements and support for our future nurses.”
