Well-wishing tots at Le Monde Petit Nursery on Bank Parade in Burnley got creative with their hand paints, sending Queen Elizabeth II a picture of their hand prints along with a birthday card for her special day on April 21st.

To everyone's great pleasure, the nursery received a regal reply to their card, with the lady-in-waiting, Philippa de Pass, thanking them on behalf of Her Majesty.

"We sent in a piece of artwork created by our under 2s and a letter to the Queen to wish her a Happy Birthday, and we were very proud to receive the letter from the Queen in reply."

Explaining their inspiration behind the birthday message and their artistic efforts, Donna said: "Nursery practitioners had been using St George's Day and the Queen's birthday as a theme to teach the babies about people and community as part of the 'Understanding the World' topic.

"The baby room was decorated with red, white and blue bunting and St George's flags," she added. "We had red, white, and blue messy play, and the babies and practitioners enjoyed a lovely tea party together."
