Sugar House Bar and Club, on the former site of Zebra’s in Keighley Road, invited people in for the first time last weekend and will do the same tonight and tomorrow.

Owner Roger Taj (45), originally from Burnley, is hoping to offer Pendle people wishing to boogy into the early hours the option of staying in the borough rather than heading to his home town.

Roger successfully ran a cocktail bar for five years in Old Street, Hoxton, before moving back to the north to take a DJ residency in Socio Rehab in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

His partner Rebecca Ford has the Beauty Room in Shackleton Hall and Roger himself has a jewellery business in the same location.

But bling is not behind Roger’s decision to open a club, he says he wants to bring a sophisticated night scene and make Colne Pendle’s premier nightlife centre after acknowledging the success of ventures such as The Venue and the Green Chimney alongside Colne’s traditional pubs.

Roger said: “Almost every town has a decent nightclub. We have a population of just over 20,000 but at the moment they are all going down to sunny Burnley.

“The idea is twofold. It’s a bar serving cocktails at reasonable prices but with a club atmosphere.”

And Roger said he hopes to attract people to Colne too with a mixture of evenings ranging from student to singles nights for various ages to keep things fresh and modern.

Roger added: “My thought process is that people have never thought about coming to Colne as there hasn’t been a decent club.”

Roger is also hoping to secure some big name DJs to the club every so often through his contacts in the entertainment industry and the bar will have a range of continental lagers and ciders, including exclusivity in the town on Birra Moretti, to keep people refreshed.

Entry is free until midnight. The bar and club will be open from 6pm until 4am. Visit the club’s page at www.facebook.com/RogerGoldmanCashForGoldShopColne for more information.
