Nelson woman on ‘shisha’ tobacco charge

A Nelson woman charged with possessing hundreds of packs of “illegal” shisha tobacco is due to appear in court.

Shabnam Jan is accused of having 305 packs of shisha without proper safety warnings on packaging at Maria’s Cash and Carry in Bradley Road, Nelson.

The defendant, of Waterside Hall, Montford Road, faces two charges of possession or supply of goods prohibited by safety regulations from June last year, at Pennine Magistrates’ Court.

The court was told the shisha packaging did not comply with the warnings requirements of the Tobacco Products (Manufacture, Presentation and Sale) Safety Regulations 2002.

The case was adjourned for a hearing on Friday, January 31st.
