Nelson murder: Burnley man (48) arrested

A BURNLEY man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a 37-year-old man was discovered in Nelson.

Police were called to an address in Eagle Street, Nelson, just after 3 p.m. on Monday.

The man, who has been identified as Dean Beardsworth, was found with severe head injuries by officers who forced their way into his home.

A 48-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of his murder yesterday and was taken to the town’s police station for questioning.

A post-mortem examination has taken place but further tests will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.

Detectives are now trying to piece together how the man died.

Det. Supt Neil Esseen from the Force Major Investigation Team said: “Mr Beardsworth is well known in the area and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen him between lunchtime on Saturday, October 2nd, and 3 p.m. on Monday, October 4th, to contact us.

“I am particularly interested in anyone who may have seen Dean in the Eagle Street area on the evening of Saturday, October 2nd.

“At this stage I am treating this death as suspicious and would appeal for anyone who has information to contact us.

“It is vital we piece together his movements so his family can know what happened to their loved one.”
