A Nelson man has died after a collision in Accrington yesterday evening (Friday).

The incident happened at around 10 pm when a red Ford Ranger vehicle has turned off Eagle Street and on to Cannon Street.

It is thought that the car has hit three metal signposts before veering across the road on to the opposite side, colliding with a wall and a parked white Volkswagen Up.

The driver, named as 72-year-old Michael Lockwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.

“We are still investigating this collision and I ask anyone who might have seen anything to get in touch.”

Mr Lockwood’s family have been informed and a file has been prepared for the coroner.
