Nelson car stack death plunge: victim named

His family released a statement in tribute to Mr Nutter saying, “Ian was a loving father, grandfather and husband. He leaves behind his wife Carol and his children and grandchildren.

“Ian is from Barnoldswick and has had a lifelong love of Alsatians; owning three in his life, and often seen walking around the Barnoldswick area with them.

“Ian is well known for his wicket keeping at Barnoldswick Cricket Club where he has been playing for over 20 years. He also played for and supported Barnoldswick United Football Club for many years.

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”

Police were called to the scene around 5-30 p.m. on Saturday after reports a man had fallen from the top of the car park and clipped a car as he fell.

Police are keen to speak to witnesses who saw the incident involving a dark coloured A-Class Mercedes.

The road at the junction of Sagar Street and Broadway was closed for a few hours while investigators were at the scene.

Pendle councillor Eileen Ansar has called on the car park owners to install security fencing around the top of the car park to prevent any future suicide attempts.

She said funding had been in place for several years and had the work been done, this and perhaps some earlier suicides might have been prevented.

“At the end of the day, if a person is going to commit suicide, they will do so but if we can do something to make the car park safe we should do.

“The car park owners should stop making excuses and get on with it. It’s getting beyond the joke.”
