Neighbours’ tribute to Barrowford gran killed in M65 jump

Rosemary Carr (80), of Ashfield Close, died as a result of injuries sustained in the M65 fall around 8am.

Police say no vehicles were involved in the incident which closed the motorway between Nelson and Colne for 90 minutes during the morning rush.

Residents of Ashfield Close have said Mrs Carr, who was affectionately known as “Rose”, will be “a sad loss” to the community.

Her husband of 60 years is called Harry and the couple have two children, Barbara, who lives in the area, and Paul, who lives in Oxford, and grandchildren.

David Walker, who lives opposite the Carrs, said: “We’ve known Rose since we moved on to the estate. We’ve lived here 47 years.

“She was a lovely person. She was well liked, she loved her gardening and walking, and spent her working life in textiles like her husband.

“She always the time for others and was very active, especially for an 80-year-old. In fact, she led one of the walking teams in Pendle until recently.

“They were very gregarious people. The entire close was stunned when we heard the news.”

Another neighbour, Ann Mullarkey, added: “It’s terrible. I can never look out of the window now without thinking about her.

“She was so bubbly. She loved her garden, she had the most beautiful garden. I just can’t believe it, nobody can believe it.

“Rose was very fit. Hail, rain or snow, Rose walked everywhere.

“We’re used to seeing the police helicopter over the park, nobody took any real notice of it. It’s so sad.”
