Neighbour confronts Burnley abduction charge man in dock

Imran Khan (33), of Pendle Street, Accrington, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Before he left the dock to be taken back to the cells, an angry Burnley grandad, a neighbour of the little girl involved, confronted him and told him he would “remember his face” and that he had “traumatised his family”.

Miss Parveen Akhtar (prosecuting) told the court a six-year-old girl was taken from Nairne Street, Burnley, around 4pm on Friday.

Miss Akhtar said: “The girl had been playing on her bike when a car approached and the driver asked her to retrieve a ball. The driver then bundled the girl into the car. She later told police she heard the man having a conversation on his phone.

“The girl was then taken to Hapton where she was bundled into a wheelie bin. She managed to crawl out and alert passers-by who called the police.”

Khan entered a plea of not guilty to charges of taking a child under the Child Abduction Act, breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Khan was remanded in custody until April 23rd when he must appear at Burnley Crown Court.
