Mum-of-four stole bottles of Bacardi

But the judge warned her not to waste the opportunity handed to her.

Mother-of-four Sarah Dwyer, who has had drugs and money problems, stole two bottles of Bacardi from the Barnoldswick Co-op store.

At the time she was subject to a community order made by Harrogate and Skipton magistrates in January.

Pennine Magistrates’ Court was told how Dwyer was said to have had a difficult life.

She had been facing eviction proceedings and was not receiving benefits. The defendant had not accessed the help and support she had been offered, but the probation service still wanted to assist her.

Dwyer (31), from Colne, but recently of Whitehall Street, Nelson, admitted theft and failing to comply with the order.

She received a nine-month community order, with supervision and the Lancashire Women’s Specified Activity Requirement and must pay a £60 statutory surcharge and £40 costs.

Mr Nick Dearing (defending) said she always concealed stolen property in her bag or under her coat.

However, when she was detained, she would “go quietly.”

Mr Dearing continued: “She’s clearly bright enough and with the right support in place, she can turn her life around.

“It’s not necessarily drugs that’s driving her. It’s the lack of benefits that’s the problem.”
