MP welcomes action on speeding traffic

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed police action against speeding motorists in Brierfield and Reedley. Over the past year County Coun. Christian Wakeford, who represents the Pendle West division, and Mr Stephenson have been raising residents’ concerns about speeding on roads across Brierfield and Reedley with Lancashire County Council and the police.

Residents were particularly concerned about speeding on Pennine Way, Reedley Road and Colne Road.

Following requests from Mr Stephenson, speed surveys were undertaken on Colne Road and Pennine Way, and interactive signs were erected to remind drivers of speed limits.

This was then followed up with a police operation on September 19th, when the police monitored these roads and stopped several vehicles for speeding and other motoring offences.

Mr Stephenson said: “Brierfield and Reedley residents have been alarmed about speeding on residential roads for some time and working with County Coun. Wakeford, I have taken up these concerns on their behalf.

“Sadly, Labour-run Lancashire County Council have failed to take action on this issue despite being presented with some quite alarming evidence of speeding on roads like Colne Road through Brierfield and Reedley.

“I am therefore encouraged to see action from our local police, who have focused on the roads which residents brought to my attention.

“I hope this focus will continue and I hope that Lancashire County Council look again at the widespread concern in the area.”
