Motorists reminded of Burnley town centre car ban

MOTORISTS are being reminded they face being fined if they ignore a traffic restriction in Burnley town centre.

The measures were introduced in December to protect late-night revellers outside Lava and Ignite, in Hammerton Street.

The restrictions mean motorists must not use Cow Lane, from the junction of Sutcliffe Street to the junction of Hammerton Street, between 1 and 5 a.m.

The restrictions also apply to motorists turning into Hammerton Street from Queen’s Lancashire Way.

Only Hackney carriages can use the areas.

PC Ashley James, community beat manager for Burnley town centre, said: “Motorists are continuing to use the Hammerton Street and Cow Lane areas during the early hours of the morning, despite clear signs. This is putting people’s safety at risk, particularly as they leave Bo Jangles and Lava and Ignite.

“I urge motorists to take note of these restrictions and avoid using the area between the hours stated, or they will be fined.”

Anyone found using the area is liable to receive a £30 fixed penalty ticket for using a prohibited road.
