Man taken to hospital with serious injuries after falling into river close to Burnley pub

Paramedics were called out last night after a man fell into the River Calder on the outskirts of Burnley town centre last night.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said they were called to Royle Road at 6-10pm after receiving reports that a man had fallen into the River Calder.

The spokesman added that the victim had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The incident happened on the stretch of the river that runs behind the Town Mouse pub.

Police were also called to the scene.
